Beginners Free Motion Embroidery Course - Evenings
Discover the joy and freedom of drawing with your sewing machine in this four‑session free‑motion embroidery course. Guided by textile artist and educator Tony Phillips (The Manbroiderer), you’ll learn how to transform simple linework into richly textured stitched illustrations—culminating in your own unique floral vase artwork.
Across the four sessions, you’ll explore:
• Free‑motion fundamentals – how to set up your machine, adjust tension, and build confidence with movement and mark‑making
• Sketching with thread – developing your own floral motifs and vase shapes through playful drawing exercises
• Layering texture and detail – using line, density, and direction to create depth and personality in your stitched composition
• Finishing techniques – mounting, framing, or incorporating your piece into a textile object
This workshop is designed for all skill levels, from curious beginners to experienced stitchers looking to loosen up and experiment. Tony’s inclusive, supportive teaching style ensures everyone can work at their own pace, with plenty of demonstrations, hands‑on guidance, and space to explore your personal style.
All materials can be provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own fabrics or threads if you’d like to personalise your piece.
Join us for a relaxed, creative four sessions and leave with a finished free‑motion embroidered
Dates for this workshop: Tuesday 20th January, 3rd February, 17th February & 3rd March
Time: 6pm - 9pm
